A Colonial Touch at ‘Tobey’
A new entry to the food scene in the Koramangala area of Bangalore, Tobey aims to bring in the experience of the colonial era. Situated right opposite the BMTC bus stand, this place offers a fusion of Anglo and Colonial cuisine. The Ambience speaks the language that the place aims to depict. Good wood work on the interiors with nice touches like the vintage clock and metal fans. It’s a small place spread across two floors with good seating arrangement.
We were a group of foodies here for a Breakfast meet and so we began our colonial journey with the breakfast platter. There were veg and non-veg variants available on the platter and I opted for the Captain Cooke’s Non-veg Platter.
The platter comprised of two toasts + Choice of any egg + Choice of Chicken Sausage or Pork or Bacon + Mushroom spinach or Baked Beans + Mash Potato + Salsa + Banana fritters. I opted for the Bacon and Mushroom spinach from the options available. The toast was excellent with the scrambled egg on top.
The Sausage and Banana fritters was nice but the mashed potatoes and the mushroom spinach could have been better. My vegetarian friends opted for the veg platter which looked equally appetizing but I did not get a chance to taste the same.
Breakfast Pizza was next on the order, again one has an option to choose the topping and being a hardcore non-vegetarian that I am obviously opted for the Non-veg pizza with Pork and the Fried Egg topping which was interestingly laid out in form of a face. Pizza overall was good !
Next we moved on to try some of their signature offerings.
Greeky Chick – Chicken marinated in Greek Yogurt and Bedouin spices, cooked in Clay Oven. Pretty impressive dish and had the right amount of spice.
Mustard Chick – As the name suggests, chicken marinated in Mustard and spices, cooked in clay over, The Mustard is not easily identifiable but the taste was top class. Succulent chicken gets a big thumbs up !
Noorie Oh Noorie – Catchy name isn’t it ? It’s Chicken stuffed with Minced chicken cooked with a special sauce in a Clay Oven. Nice presentation and stuffed minced chicken was full of flavour. The dip and the salad as side with all of these dishes are perfect.
Mutton Galouti Kebab – This was disappointing. Kebabs were dry and did not eat well. Not the Galouti that we had expected and can be improved upon. We did give feedback and it was taken well ,so hope to get some good one’s next time around.
Also tried the Classic Poutine which was indeed Classic ! Its’s basically Fries served with Cheese and Gravy. Absolutely loved it ! Gravy was delicious and one of those things that deserves an applause.
It was time to end the meal with some Desserts and out came Blueberry Cheesecake and Chocolate Mousse. Great way to end the meal !
